Breakfast Club is a 1985 film directed by John Hughes. It stars Emilio Estevez, Anthony Michael Hall, Judd Nelson, Molly Ringwald and Ally Sheedy. The film follows the journey of five high school students who are detained for an entire Saturday and have to write a long essay, over a thousand words long, about what they think about themselves. During detention, they band together to take on the system and develop a strong bond. The film has become a cult classic, faithfully portraying the 1980s. The film touches on themes of teenage rebellion, socialization, and self-acceptance. The title comes from the nickname invented by students and staff for morning detention at New Trier High School, the school attended by the son of one of John Hughes's friends. Thus, those who were sent to detention before school started were designated as members of "The Breakfast Club". Critically, it is considered one of the greatest high school movies of all time.
